ashman70 Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 I am currently copying data to my new UnRaid server, I am doing this through a windows pc which has shares for the source (my NAS) and the destination (share on UnRaid server). Usually the transfer has been around 52 MB/s however on one file that was just copying, it was all over the place from below 1 MB/s to no higher then 5 or 6 MB/s. Now that is has moved onto a different file its back up to where it normally is. What would cause this? Everything is connected via gigabit wired ethernet, there is nothing else happening network wise on the server that is doing the copying, or the NAS or the UnRaid server. Really odd.
tdallen Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Could be a highly fragmented file on the source system?
ashman70 Posted October 2, 2015 Author Posted October 2, 2015 The source is a NAS running EXT4 file system, I was under the impression that it rarely needed to be defragmented?
tr0910 Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Or it could have been copying small files. I would say this is normal. 52 mb/sec is normal top end for a protected array not using a cache drive.
