Silverstone RM420 (molex question)

Featured Replies

Hello everyone...my first post (hope it is not a dumb newbie post).

I had the need for a storage server that could grow as my photo business grows, so I selected the Silverstone RM420.

This is my first big server (everything else has just been small desktop appliances, Buffalo etc.), and the documentation on the RM420 is lacking.

There are 7 Molex connections and nothing is marked as to what they control.

Can someone tell me the connection order of the Molex connectors...they are in a vertical stack and I do not know which powers what. I was thinking that a couple may be the case fans...heck I have no clue.

Thanks,

Michelle Logan

Shot in the dark, could be totally wrong, but many times I've seen multiple connectors for the same bus, all connected together. When you have a need to get many amps from one place to another, you either use a couple very fat wires, or lots of skinny ones. With lots of redundant connectors and wires, less chance of overload on any single set. Since it's conceivable you would need to spin up 20 high amp draw drives at once, I can see using all 7 to provide enough current to the backplane.

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

I will connect them all...I guess I was trying to do the math based on a video I saw on another big case where , where they had a redundant power supply (I do not) and the other connections controlled the drive bays.
