Hi guys and Gals....

Just want to say, I've been running Unraid 6.* now for many months, and I simply love it... brilliant.

I was hoping to pick the brains of all you clever people. I'm VERY new to Linus based programs and NAS devices.

I basically want to use XBMC on my LG WEBOS type TV. I have done many searches, and I see that the developers of XBMC aren't going to make an app to use directly on the TV.

However, the content I want to use is accessible via XBMC.

So, my question is... I see I can download XBMC onto my unraid server. How do I get that XBMC interface onto my TV.

I apologise in advance if this is a really simple and silly question. Again, I don't have much experience with this type of thing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Mort

Buy a streamer like Roku, Apple TV or Chromecast, connect it to your receiver via HDMI, and install the XBMC app for the chosen device.

XBMC is called Kodi now.

Don't think Kodi is supported on all those devices: wiki - Kodi Devices

If you want it running on your unRAID and actually outputting HDMI you will have to do a VM, like OpenElec.

Probably simpler to go with a Plex Media Server docker. Likely your TV has Plex client built-in.

I know this only brings up a lot more questions. See search tips in my sig.

Yup... Plex will do allmost everything you need... With the exception of adhoc subtitle search and the possibility to play dvd VIDEO_TS folders..

My Plex app running on Roku works beautifully with my Plex Media Server.  It's a shame that Kodi does not support the most popular streamers out there.

Hi all,

Many thanks for the input.

I already have Plex running on my machine, and it works great. I'm actually trying to get this to work on my TV...

https://www.livego.tv/xbmc

I can get it to work by plugging in my laptop to the TV via HDMI, but if I could access it somehow through my unRaid server, that would be the bomb.

Basically I just want to turn my TV on, and have access to it, without plugging other devices in etc.

I hope that makes sense.

Kind regards,

Mort

So when you use it with your laptop, is livego installed on your laptop and you are actually running it on the laptop, or what?

Still not entirely clear what you want. Do you want to plug your unRAID server into your TV? If so, then you might be able to get livego to run in a VM if you have a separate video card with HDMI in your server.

Just buy a raspberry pi 2 and install openelec on it. Could not get a easier installation of Kodi

Hi Trurl,

Yes, the Livego.tv & Kodi is installed on my laptop at the moment. I select the channel I want, for example F1. Then I simply plug my laptop into my TV via a HDMI cable to watch it on the big screen.

It works fine, but I'd love to find a way to do that, without using the laptop. ie: Using the unraid server.

I think I might have to use the VM option. My MB has a free slot for a video card. It also has an onboard HDMI output which might work also, without using a videocard???

Cheers,

Mort

Hi Steini84,

I'll look into this as well. thanks.

You can't access the onboard from a VM.

If you add a video card,I think Jon P has made some tutorials on unraid w/openelec.
