Short Depth Rack Chassis?

Featured Replies

I'm looking to move my server from a mini-ITX case to a short depth (< 20") rack mountable server chassis that will support 8+ 3.5" drives.  I was looking at this case but I can't find any reviews and I'm also not sure if it will support mini-ITX cases as it doesn't list them as supported.

Has anyone used iStar cases or have another solid option for me?

Should the mount points for an itx MB is the same as the top 4 hole on a micro atx MB.

I use an iStarUSA case similar to the one you are looking at.  My case just has the hot swap docks on the right side, where yours has them on both sides. I generally like the case, however, the fan on the back of the docks are quite loud.  I replaced it with an enermax 80mm fan. One other thing is the power button tends to get stuck. I've had to open the case a couple of times to move the button back into position. I bought mine used on Amazon for $85 and feel that it was worth the money.  However, if I paid $300 something for it, I would feel differently.

That's an amazing deal.  I've seen the one you have but they still go for $300 right now.  I'd love to get something cheaper but I don't really see any other options at this point.  Everything is full rack length that has the number of hot swap bays I need.

I had no idea the prices had changed so much. I bought mine last year about this time -- actually maybe it was around black Friday.  Guess I should not complain about the power button getting stuck and the fan being noisy. However, if you are going to pay today's price for the case, these issues might matter to you.

Best of luck.

I'm not super worried about price, I just want something that's fairly high quality and will fit my needs exactly.  I'm even considering just finding a good quality 3U case that I can put 2-3 of the iStarUSA enclosures such as these into.
