Preclear - very slow post-read

Featured Replies

Hi everybody,

Since yesterday i'm preclearing a WD Green 2TB. The process has been running for 32hrs now, but for the past three hours i've been monitoring the process of the last step (post-read) and since then it looks like the process is stuck at 17%.

The webUI tells me the post-read progesses at 7MB/s only, but i've read elsewhere on the forum that this might very much be wrong. I've hooked up a screen to the server, and the speed reads 74MB/s. The timer advances regularly yet it the whole process stays at 17%.

Is there something wrong or anything i should do?

Thanks for your help!

Sounds like there may be some issues with the drive. You could stop the post-read and try to get a SMART report, then if it is OK you can try again, possibly skipping the previous steps and just going from the post-read again. Are you using the plugin or just the script?

We're a few hours later now, past the 44hrs mark and yes, the post-read crawled up to 26%.

I guess i'll let it continue today and check things out when I'll be back from work.

Edit: 10 hours later and the process is at 47%, current read speed 102MB/s

The progression is so slow, I cannot recall the previous drives taking that long. Does this means something?

Ok guys, the process is now at 51% after 68 hours. I'd gladly stop the post read but how can I redo this step only if my SMART report is positive?

There are command line options for the script. See the script thread. If using the plugin, then its GUI will let you set those command line options with checkboxes or something.

Thanks i might give this a go.

Today the progress made an unexpected leap as I am now at 82% so that means 31% in ten hours. I will let it crawl until tomorrow and see where does it takes me.

Cheers!
