jonp
Are these the GPUs you are trying to use? 06:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation G92 [GeForce 9800 GT] [10de:0614] (rev a2) 07:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation G92 [GeForce 9800 GT] [10de:0614] (rev a2) These are circa 2008 and are probably not compatible with GPU pass through. Older devices can definitely have problems with this. Using a more modern GPU should work fine. If you have to use the ACS Override, I recommend using a slightly different GPU for each VM. They can both be NVIDIA, but maybe different brands or models. Quote Link to comment
boelle
1 of them yes. Or so was the plan. I also have a gtx 680, That no also barked at me, but maybe the other screws things up just by being there? Do I get it right that unraid also needs a card on its own? Quote Link to comment

I also have a gtx 680, That no also barked at me, but maybe the other screws things up just by being there? Do I get it right that unraid also needs a card on its own? Can you post your full system specs? The CPU, motherboard, etc? The 680 should work, as I've gotten a 650 to work, but sometimes these things can be card-specific. unRAID itself may need a GPU on its own. It really depends on the motherboard/chipset. With the 2011 that was featured in the Linus video and that particular motherboard, it was required to have the primary GPU dedicated to unRAID. If he had used an AMD Radeon card, that may or may not have been the case. We're finding that each combination of CPU, motherboard, and GPU can be a bit unique. That's why we recommend to assume that you need a dedicated GPU for unRAID and that it must be modern. I have extremely old AMD HD3xxx series cards that work fine with pass through, but then a newer NVIDIA GTX 550 that doesn't reset correctly. So in the end, it's better to "try and see what works," then come here for guidance, and if necessary, acquire different / better hardware. Quote Link to comment
boelle
CPU: Core i7 960 MB: Asus P6T6 WS Revolution - https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P6T6_WS_Revolution/ GPU: Gigabyte GV-N680OC-2GD - http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4178#ov RAM: 3*4 GB DDR3 (in tripple channel mode) need more data? just so i get the right stuff first time arround EDIT: GPU for Unraid is and crappy one i pulled from an old HP pc: Asus GeForce 8500GT 512MB - http://www.ascendtech.us/asus-geforce-8500gt-512mb-dvi-hdmi-s-vid_i_vc512hpgf8500gt.aspx Quote Link to comment
boelle
that combo worked with ACS Override on and the added stuff in config file now turned ACS Override off but its building parity (yes just added a drive for that), can i safely reboot during that or should i wait? boelle
ACS needs to be on or it freezez the box if i try to start a VM... or could i be a setting in syslinux.cfg? EDIT... it was when i enabled the onboard sound card... Quote Link to comment
boelle
So i figure my route here is to invest in a usb soundcard or an box that can extract the sound from the HDMI if the system can run with the hdmi as sound card... i would have liked to use the onboard sound as it could take care of both my speakers and headphones at the same time Quote Link to comment
boelle
btw.... does my BIOS settings look right? Quote Link to comment
boelle
the box froze up after some hours of use... i guess my hardware is a big no go after all... or am i mistaken? Quote Link to comment
