Any suggestions on how to move forward.  In terms of buggy hardware...Do you mean the USB3 controller...or maybe the older GPU?  I assume the motherboard and cpu are fine and the memory has tested out perfect. Its also interesting that the system is perfectly stable as long as I am not passing the USB3 controller through...so far no issues with the GPU.

 

Is there anyway to troubleshoot this, logs, etc. as it is concerning that it takes down unraid.

Update:

 

I believe I have my USB Passthrough issue solved.  I am posting so others can learn from my issue.

 

Over the past couple of weeks a couple of users have indicated that when passing through the GPU to make sure that you also passed the HDMI audio.  This made me take pause and look at my VM xml file and I noticed that I was not doing this.  My reason for not passing the hdmi audio on the GPU was that I was using DVI for my video connection and the 3.5mm audio from the motherboard…so since I was not using HDMI audio, under the soundcard section of the VM template,  I was passing my motherboard soundcard. 

 

I never realized that there was a plus sign next to the soundcard in the vm setup to pass multiple soundcard devices.  Once I passed the GPU’s HDMI audio along with the motherboard’s built-in soundcard, I was able to edit my VM xml file to passthrough the USB PCIe card.  It has been 48 hours since I made this change and my system has been stable with USB passthrough and no issues with Unraid stability(previously it crashed after an hour or two).

 

For reference the passthrough GPU was a Powercolor HD5450.  I know some users indicated that they did not have any luck with this GPU and I am wondering if it was because they did not pass the HDMI audio through in the soundcard section of the VM template.

 

I will come back and mark this thread as solved if I have a week without a crash.
