November 8, 201510 yr I'm trying to use unRAID with.: ASUS Z87-DELUXE (Bios 2103) Intel i7-4770 CPU 3.40GHz 16GB 2x8 G.Skill DDR3 1866MHz F3-14900CL10-8GBXL Seagate ST2000DL003-9VT166 Intel HD Graphics 4600 nVidia GeForce GTX 650 BIOS Default SATA - AHCI Intel VT-x - Enable Intel VT-d - Enable unRAID Server 6.1.3 HVM: Enable IOMMU: Enable Kernel: Linux 4.1.7-unRAID x86_64 OpenSSL: 1.0.1p Array - Started PROBLEMS.: 01 - unRAID freezes in "Settings-VM Maneger" when Applying "Yes-Enable VMs" 02 - unRAID freezes in "Tools-System Devices" and don't show any Devices List. 03 - unRAID freezes in "Tools-Diagnostics" when "Downloading" 04 - No Clean Reboot or Power down. (mount: can't find / in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab) unRAID Freezes ... the Browser and even the Local access stop responding. This System have no problems working with VMWare Wokstation 12 Pro and ESXI 6. Any Help Please...
November 9, 201510 yr Can you get to the console, login, and type "diagnostics" and then stop the system, eject the USB flash, plug it into a PC, and copy the ZIP file for it off the flash and upload it here? Curious have you tried an earlier version (such as 6.1.2)? Same result? Just curious if this is a weird kernel bug with your hardware or something else.
November 9, 201510 yr Author Hello again... I tried to run "diagnostics" through the local console, but it also freezes... Same result as through the Browser Diagnostics... Tried the 6.1.2 version... Same results... I'll probably have to wait for a new unRAID version... Or a new Motherboard BIOS... But I think Asus will not launch a new bios so soon... Or ever... Maybe in the future I'm able to get may hands on a Asus X99-DELUXE Motherboard (same as in Linus video)...
November 9, 201510 yr Community Expert If the 'diagnostics' command from a console/telnet session does not complete then there is something very wrong with the system as it should always complete successfully (even if an error message is displayed while it is executing).. This is not something I would expect could be fixed by a new unRAID release. I would suspect something like a RAM issue. You might get a bit more of a clue of what is happening if the command is run as sh -x diagnostics as that should show the details as to how far it is getting.
November 9, 201510 yr Community Expert I remember reading somewhere that Asus Z77/Z87 VT-d support was spotty, you may want to try disabling just for testing.
November 10, 201510 yr Author Well guys... I've been using this computer for years now... Without glitches... No problems with Windows and VT-x VT-d in Wokstation 12 Pro. No problems with VT-x VT-d in ESXI 6. I've run MemTest86 again for 13 hours... 5 complete passes... No Errors... (attach) My goal is to run a VM with "GeForce GTX 650" pass-through... For games and other things... Something I wasn't able to actually achieve with VMware's Software... Due to nVidia and VMware intentional limitations... Because nVidia needs to sell their overpriced professinal graphic cards for VMs... I'll try to record the unRaid boot somehow...
November 10, 201510 yr Author unRAID Boot Image - Attach 01/18 Video - https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0BwGAZ2Zxlp3cMmhRc00xaHBLd0E&usp=sharing
November 10, 201510 yr Author Attach one by one of the images will not work... Every image is on the previos Google Drive Folder...
November 10, 201510 yr Author I tested unRAID with VT-d Disabled... - Same Problems... I tested unRAID with VT-x and VT-d Disabled... - No more VMs... But still with Diagnostics and Tools-System Devices problems... Doubt.: The "Diagnostics" should produce results quickly, or takes hours to work... The MemTest86 reported no errors... Is there any configuration in the BIOS that that might cripple unRAID...
November 10, 201510 yr Author I just tested unRaid 6.1.3 in a.: Notebook Dell Inspirion I15R SE-4570 Intel i7-3632QM CPU 2.20GHz 8GB RAM Everything Worked... "Settings-VM Maneger" - Worked. "Tools-System Devices" - Worked. "Tools-Diagnostics" - Worked. The problem with the Dell Notebook is that the BIOS doesn't give you the option to enable VT-d... I think that's it... The big problem lies with my motherboard ASUS Z87-DELUXE... It must be Incompatible with unRAID or it needs a very well refined setting to work... If someone have the same motherboard... Please test it with unRAID and report back... It is also possible that my motherboard has a specific defect...
November 11, 201510 yr I can't say for the deluxe, however I did a lot of VM/VT-d testing with multiple video cards on my Z87-Pro without any real issues. I beat this test environment up pretty good trying to figure out which video cards were problematic, and which weren't. My results confirmed what I had noticed in my main server, no differences with this particular board. At that time I believe I was on 6.0 final, if not 6.1, but would have to check on that. I wouldn't think much would change between then and now with releases in regards to instability. You may want to try to disable some of the "deluxe" features your board comes with, however I have no specifics off hand. As with any computer issue, remove items to get to bare minimum, test, add items, repeat. So with that, remove any extra video card (the GTX 650), disable extra options in the BIOS (like Wifi, bluetooth, etc...), try booting unRAID in safe mode, repeat, continue... You will find something that isn't cooperating.
November 11, 201510 yr Community Expert (Attach) Result Command.: sh -x diagnostics Sorry - I only realised when I saw this output that the diagnostics is a php script rather than a shell script. I am not sure if there is a way to get information about the execution from a php script.
November 11, 201510 yr (Attach) Result Command.: sh -x diagnostics I'd guess you have some USB drive corruption, or a USB setting in the BIOS that makes it unhappy. Is this a new fresh installation of UnRAID? Can you try another flash drive, or disabling/changing BIOS settings for USB compatibility? If you have a license, the different flash drive will be an issue, however you can always test with a trial license.
November 11, 201510 yr Author Thanks bungee91... I will try it... The USB Flash and unRAID installation seems to be in order... I've already tested it on my Notebook...
November 11, 201510 yr Thanks bungee91... I will try it... The USB Flash and unRAID installation seems to be in order... I've already tested it on my Notebook... If BIOS settings are out of order, this could still be the case. With my ASRock MB there are certain USB settings that make UnRaid go goofy!.. I believe it has to do with the USB settings and Smart Auto/Auto/Enable/Disable, one of those for me causes serious USB flash drive problems.
