February 2, 201610 yr Also if you have any sparse bundles on the server the size may never be calculated since they do not play well with Linux. I was backing up with SuperDuper (still do) using sparse bundles and had to go back to sparse images. I had issues even mounting the bundles. I do have "Calculate all sizes" turned on and still get faster loading since I only export everything in only one format now. Is it possible your not getting the best network speeds.. I'm hard wired but tried using wireless and slowed everything down to a crawl.. And at one point I had a bad eithernet cable and it dropped my speed on one Mac down to 100 and got really, really slow.
February 2, 201610 yr I switched to NFS and it seems to be a lot faster and more stable. When using NFS and spinning up the drives if I am doing a lot of work, it is pretty quick and accurate. I also used "Path Finder", a finder replacement that doesn't have the issue and supports queued copies/moves..
February 2, 201610 yr I tested out Pathfinder this week on my wored & Wireless machines, both still have issues loading directories. I havent had issues with inaccuracy, just extremely slow load times. I'll check the calculate all sizes settings.
February 2, 201610 yr One thing you may want to check, I don't know what you have for a router and not an expert but here's what I ran into with mine, supplied by Verizon. If I used the wired ethernet ports on mine for my network, speed slowed down to 100 on everything I had connected to it. What I did was use a switch to connect my network to and connected the switch to the router which now is only used to assign IP address's and connecting to the internet. So even though is suppose to be a gigabit router the ports are actually 10/100 and it's printed right on the ports, I never looked and just assumed they would be gigabit.
February 2, 201610 yr All GIG I am afraid. Using Pathfinder. Calculate all file sizes is off. NFS - good idea. Ill see how that helps. I'm not complaining, its just Windows does not have these issues, so it must be something specific with Mac - I don't understand why the cached folders plugin is not working with the Mac, sure works fine with my Windows and Linux machines. Frustrating to say the least. If we all keep digging we are sure to find something. Ill give NFS a go.
February 11, 201610 yr No improvements dammit. In Linux the protocols work fine. Ill find my mac mini running snow leopard and check those. Must be a setting somewhere.
February 11, 201610 yr I always use the latest OSX version and never had any problems with browsing unRAID shares. Does it work fine from the command line ? I always disable writing .DS_xxxx files to network drives ... not sure if that might help, but worth a shot.
February 12, 201610 yr Its the large shares I see this issue - eg my music share. Ill try your suggestions.
March 5, 201610 yr Sad to say that still no luck. My QNAP is fast from my Mac, but with Unraid, minutes.
