Step by Step for Starting Over Fresh?

Featured Replies

Can someone please tell me the steps in order to take an existing V6 unraid server and start all drives out fresh and clean and switch them from reiserfs to XFS. I have all of my data already backed up off of unraid and wish to simply format all drives including parity and cache and switch all drives to XFS. Then I plan to copy back over all of my data to the fresh unraid server. Thanks in advance.

Stop the array, click on each disk in turn and change the file system type to xfs. Parity does not have a format, so only the data and cache drives need to be changed. The cache drive probably will not allow you to choose xfs unless you have only 1 cache slot enabled in the main view, if you have multiple cache slots it will force btrfs as that is the only format that currently allows a cache pool, so if you want the cache to be xfs make sure you are showing only 1 cache slot available when the array is stopped.

Start the array, select the "yes I am sure" button to start the formatting.

Thanks so very much....So I need not mess with the 'new config' option within settings then based upon your instructions right?

Only do a new config if you want to also change the drive assignments, like removing or adding drives. If you are keeping all the same physical drives, no need to do a new config.

Correct -- you do NOT need to do a New Config.    As Jonathan noted, that's only needed if you actually want to change the config ... i.e. change the slot positions for your drives or remove one (or more) of your drives.    It's not even required if you want to add drives -- you can do that by simply assigning an additional drive to the current configuration.
