Hardware compatibility - Definitive way of knowing?

Featured Replies

Having had issues with my 3Ware 9650 controller, I thought I'd look out for another card.

Lime Tech say that hardware for unRAID should have;

3. Linux hardware driver support (for storage, Ethernet, and USB controllers)

I bought a Highpoint 4460 on the basis that it had Linux support, but I can't even get unRAID to recognise it. (It's working great in a standard windows machine.)

Is there any other way of telling whether a piece of hardware will work other than hoping somebody else has got there before you?

Regards,

Paul

I had to flash a Quickboot BIOS to my High Point cards to get them to work well.

However, they left a bad taste in my mouth from a support stand point. Here's the short version:

Drive in RAID5 array failed, caused system to not boot. Remove some/all drives, system boots with errors on the array.

Support responses were not helpful over the course of a week. I tracked down the problems... and finally said "no more hardware RAID"
