I have been using afp exclusively but recently I've been trying to find a way to use my iPad to do all my server activities and the app I found to access the shares only uses smb. When I try and delete a folder it says I have no permission even though I gave read/write access to the user over smb. And I can see the private shares.

Here is a good writeup on user shares.  It pertains to windows, but as I don't own any apple products I dont know how pertinent it is so YMMV.
