unRAID 6 GUI, shares and terminal connections stop shortly after boot

Featured Replies

G'day!  :)

New unRAID user here and have been running unRAID 6 for about a month or so now without issues.  Today, however, it has not been playing nice.

I needed to shutdown my unRAID box as my UPS started beeping.  From what I can tell, it was a clean shutdown (but now after some troubleshooting, it is now saying "Unclean shutdown detected.")  :(

Starting it back up, all appears good except after a minute or so (no longer than 2 min) neither the GUI, SMB shares or putty terminal sessions work anymore.

Chrome gives me: This webpage is not available  ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

Putty gives me: Network error: connection refused

I can ping the box continuously, and logging in locally I can ping internal and external and do dns resolutions with no issues.

I have swapped NICs with the exact same results.  Eliminated any possible switch or cable issues.

There are no entries in the syslog from when everything is up to when the issue occurs and I cannot see anything nefarious in the syslog.  It is attached as recommended.

Weirdly, it will come back momentarily and then drop all connections again.  :o

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated and happy to try and provide additional information if needed.

Post full diagnostics file.

Thanks for the reply.

Which one is that?  Is there a difference between a diagnostics file and the syslog file?  Can't seem to find any info on creating or obtaining anything but the syslog.

Diagnostics is a zip file that includes substantially more information such as what processes are running, what disk settings, network settings, and full syslog, etc. You create it by typing diagnostics at the command prompt.

Ok, got it . :)

Apologies, that seemed rather simple.  I think I was looking at an out-dated Troubleshooting guide.

Parity drive check has completed with no issues.

Over the duration of today, the web GUI and shares became active again but only for a short period of time (20 seconds) then back to no connection.  After 5-20 min (seemingly random) I could connect again, only to have it all drop out again a few seconds later.  This behaviour repeated throughout the day.

Attached is a new diagnostics.

*ANY* assistance or ideas to try would be appreciated.  I do not want to have to build this again from scratch. :(

OK, not getting anywhere here.

Can someone advise whether I can reset/reinstall unRAID 6 and keep my array intact?  Would I be better backing up my data and wiping everything and starting from scratch... ?

If you are certain you know what your drive assignments are then you can wipe the USB drive and start again from scratch (a screen shot of existing assignments can help here).  Make sure you have a copy of the .key file that is your license file (I would suggest copying all the files from the USB drive to a safe place that is NOT on the unRAID server before starting again).  When you assign the drives then unRAID should automatically pick up their existing contents.  When user shares are enabled then all existing user shares should be picked up with default settings.

If unRAID offers to format a drive (which should not happen) then do NOT do this as the existing contents would be lost.  Also make very sure you do not accidentally assign a data drive as the parity drive as this would lose the contents.
