November 30, 201510 yr Recently i tore down my AMD based unraid server and combined it inside my desktop i have windows 10 and 7 booting on my nivdia gtx 760 and sound passthrough my sound card. This week im getting a new z97 board and i7 4790k in which i have 16gb of rams. my question is what sort of cheap pci or pcie usb card should i get to boot unraid off of so i can pass through every other usb port to my VM(s). does any one have a suggestion of a card that can be bootable so i can give all other ports to the VM(s)?
December 2, 201510 yr Wouldn't it be easier to do it the other way around? Use an onboard USB port to boot unraid from, and pass through an add-on card(s) to the VM(s)?
December 2, 201510 yr Author I agree with that however I want to pass through my entire front panel USB so I can hot plug USB drives so maybe I should look for a card that support front panel connections since the back plane devices such as keyboard and mouse already get pass through
December 2, 201510 yr ypu can get add-on cards with the headers for front panel connectors... To save headaches, thats definitely the route i would take!
