December 1, 201510 yr This is the first time I've seen SMART errors or even a warning. I've read a lot of different things on what are the important values to look at and what should trigger replacing a drive. Any input is much appreciated. Thanks. tower-diagnostics-20151130-0249.zip
December 1, 201510 yr Disk 1 - WDC_WD20EARS-00MVWB0_WD-WMAZ20385394 - 1 pending sector – this is the most important warning, as pending sectors usually indicate bad sectors, but I’ve seen more than once a disk with a single pending sector pass a full surface scan, do a SMART extended test (disable spin down for that disk), if there are any read errors replace disk. Disk 3 – WDC_WD20EARS-00S8B1_WD-WCAVY4890369 - 1 reallocated sector – should be ok, would also do SMART extended test and keep an eye on value, if it keeps increasing would replace disk. Disk 5 - ST32000542AS_5XW1KGCA - there’s some discussion on the importance of the command timeout attribute on Seagates, most think it’s harmless, there are also some UDMA_CRC_Errors, if it keeps increasing try changing SATA cable / backplane Don’t see any obvious issues with the other disks.
December 2, 201510 yr Author I have the extended SMART tests running now. I'll post back if anything interesting comes out of them. Thanks for the help.
December 2, 201510 yr Author Attached are the extended reports. I'm seeing all passed. Anything to be worried about in there? Thanks. ST32000542AS_5XW1KGCA-20151202-0313.txt WDC_WD20EARS-00MVWB0_WD-WMAZ20385394-20151202-0312.txt WDC_WD20EARS-00S8B1_WD-WCAVY4890369-20151202-0300.txt
December 2, 201510 yr I would keep using them, make sure Unraid notifications are enable, so you’re notified if pending/reallocated sectors increase.
December 2, 201510 yr Just to add that although you can keep using them they are good candidates to be the first drives to replace when upgrading.
December 3, 201510 yr Author Thank you very much for checking those out. I'll set up notifications to keep an eye on those values. Thanks.
