MyMain Showing 2xHPA (Both 6TB HDD's) What should I do?

Featured Replies

Greetings,

I recently noticed that mymain is showing my 2x6TB drives as HPA with a question mark? I originally thought it was because unmenu was out-of-date, so I upgrade and found it the same. So I looked into HPA and am not sure what I should do - if anything. Surprised a 4TD drive shows correctly.

As the parity is showing this, do I need to be concerned? My next 6TD drive is on it's way. They are all WD6TB reds.

I don’t know if Unmenu correctly detects HPA but you can search your syslog for HPA to confirm, if detected it will appear like this:

ata1.00: HPA detected: current 3907027055, native 3907029168
ata1.00: ATA-8: SAMSUNG HD204UI, S2HFJ1BZ902507, 1AQ10001, max UDMA/133

I don't think MyMain has been updated for larger (> 4TB) drives yet with regard to HPA detection.  I'm fairly sure the indications you're seeing are false and can simply be ignored.  Hopefully Brian (bjp999 -- the author of MyMain) will chime in and confirm that ... and perhaps indicate when/if he plans to update it for these drives.

I keep saying I will release an update but haven't gotten to it yet. Use the workaround posted.

Thanks for the input. I think I can breathe a little easier. I found that post during my searching, but wasn't sure I was doing the right thing until I got more knowledgeable input from more informed people :D.

Much appreciated.
