Automatically check parity on a schedule.

Featured Replies

Hey all,

While I have no doubt it's already been asked and answered, I am having trouble finding the answer in search... most likely because "Parity check" is an awfully common topic and yields too many results.

Someone mentioned in a previous discussion that it is common to set parity checks to run automatically on a schedule.

Now that I have good parity and a fabulously reliable unRAID setup, I'd really like to automate the parity check process so that I know they're happening, but can let them happen on their own (hands-off for me).

What's the skinny on setting that up?  Is it a setting I've overlooked?  Perhaps a cron job command?  Or something else?  PS - I have unMenu 1.2 installed, so if it's in there somewhere, I can use that method.

Thanks!!

Robbie

there is some discussions out there that deal with a monthly parity check script file that sets up a cron task like you mentioned.  I think the Add-on's section of the unRAID wiki talks about it.

Thanks.  I've downloaded monthly_parity_check.sh and added a command to my go script to launch it.

Cheers,

Robbie

take a look at the Third party Boot Flash Plugin Architecture if you are planning to add quite a few things to your server.  This setup will allow you to add stuff to the boot of the server but not continuously add lines to the go file.

Do some searching on the forums and you will find a lot of scripts that have been created to take advantage of this architecture.

Thanks.  I've downloaded monthly_parity_check.sh and added a command to my go script to launch it.

Robbie

Timely thread, mine fired off this morning to do the monthly check :)

Hopefully yours did too!
