Audio not working correctly

Featured Replies

I have two computers setup using unraid.  I have tried using the motherboard sound card as well as using a usb headset.  When I turn the system on the playback devices show audio is being picked up by the system, however no actual noise is going through.  I have tried on both systems and with several different headsets.  the only way i have been able to get any sound is setting the soundcard to the GPU and through an hdmi cable, the problem with this is I would not be able to use a microphone since its only audio out.  I'm sure you guys will need more information about each system so just let me know! Thank you for your help

Since unRAID itself doesn't do audio, should we assume you are trying to do this in a VM? What OS?

Yes in both VMs.  One of them is Windows 7 ultimate the other is Windows 10 home

I've been searching the Google and the potential fixes (which I don't understand or don't know how to do) are enabling msi and/or passing through the sound card and USB headset

Have you tried reading the stickies in the KVM subforum?

I have looked over a few but havent had the chance to try them out.  I will go through and post my findings. Thank you!

I bought a USB soundcard for about £5 and passed through the USB to my VM.  Haven't tested the microphone as I have no need for it but audio is working.

Good to know! I ordered one a few days ago, hopefully it will work for me as well

There's a few people using them, I got one on the advice of archedraft, so can take no credit for this one.  ;)

Ugh the sound issue is so frustrating. EVERYTHING else on the two systems are working perfectly, but the sound keeps giving me issues.  I got a usb sound card, plugged it in, set it to one of my systems and it worked!! Then, I shut it all down, swapped it to the other system and again...it worked!  Shut the system down, stick it back to the first system (the primary one for gaming, better gpu) and the sound no longer played. I didn't change any of the other settings other than passing the usb sound card back and forth between the two VMs.  I have no idea whats wrong
