VM - passing through shares

Featured Replies

Is there a way to pass through the contents of shares directly to the VM?

I realize you can probably just access the share over the network, is this the only way? Are there any performance hits by doing it this way?

Isn't there a way to do this in the GUI?

Might only be for Linux clients

9P I think...

I should have specified this is for a windows guest. And I just checked, that feature is only available for linux guests

Yeah, I guessed you were probably using Windows, I can't remember exactly, but I don't actually think there is much, if any, of a performance problem using network shares.  Seem to remember jonp talking about it at some point.

CHBMB is right  :D There should not be a performance hit using the shares through smb as the traffic never leaves unraid. That is the info we got from jonp.

This is correct. I have been able to get > 10gbps performance from a Windows guest to an SMB share (granted it was a cache only share using SSDs), but proves that there isn't a bottleneck in transfer rate going through shares.

If only my wife understood that sometimes....  ::)

LOL! I know what you're going through  :-X
