December 6, 201510 yr I am a new unRAID user. I am looking to use a database for my various Kodi installs around my home. All are running v16 Jarvis Beta 2 (if that makes a difference) I was hoping I could use unRAID server for the database? What is the best way to implement this? (I've search but confused with dockers/headless etc) Currently using an old CentOS machine and Putty to manage MySQL but hoping to retire that machine now. I want to start a fresh if possible. Any help is appreciated
December 6, 201510 yr There are both MariaDB and MySQL Dockers for unRAID. I'm using MariaDB which is supposed to be a newer/more supported direct replacement for MySQL.

December 6, 201510 yr Author Thanks, which is the recommend MariaDB docker? I see a few listed in the list.
December 6, 201510 yr Author I tried MariaDB from "gfjardim's Repository" and the new Database seems to have setup correctly, I'm adding a couple of sources now to test it. Was this the best thing to use? (did I need headless Kodi instead? What are the benefits?)

(did I need headless Kodi instead? What are the benefits?) benefits of Kodi headless is that you tell any of your downloaders to update the DB through the headless instance. That way none of your HTPC's need to be on for the db to get updated.
December 6, 201510 yr Author Thanks Squid. I rip all my media with my main HTPC ODD to my media share folder, then I usually use "update library" command from Kodi on my HTPC. If I am understanding correctly, the headless docker runs Kodi, and that headless Kodi can be set to automatically monitor the library/source folder for new additions and update the DB as needed? Not having to remember to update library would be nice (if I am understanding correctly), I might try that later and see how it goes
