Windows 7 VM very slow when installing updates

Featured Replies

I recently installed a Windows 7 VM using the virtio drivers.

Today I installed a program and Windows 7 needed to update Internet Explorer to version 11.

This took a very long time, more than an hour. Is this normal? Or is the configuration of the Virtual disk wrong? What setting gives the best performance?

Unless you've tested this same upgrade on a physical machine, there is no way to know.

Thanks jon,

In a Windows 7 VM in ESXi the same upgrade takes about 20 minutes. Also installing some programs is quicker than in KVM.

Ok, same resources assigned to VM?  CPU, memory, virtual disk?
