December 7, 201510 yr Hi My unraid server is running on 4.7 for years, and it's works fine. Two weeks ago I ?thought, maybe I would be a good idea to be up to date at unraid. I download the new software (6.1.5) and tried to upgrade my server as described at http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Upgrading_to_UnRAID_v6 The network settings are okay and i can connect to the web interface, but all disk settings and shares are gone. Any idea? Robert
December 7, 201510 yr Community Expert Have you checked under Settings->Global Share Settings that you have User Shares and Disk Shares enabled? If that is not the issue then it might be a good idea to post the diagnostics ZIP file (from Tools->Diagnostics) so we can see what is happening.
December 7, 201510 yr ... all disk settings and shares are gone. Do the disks show okay on the Web GUI in the Main tab? If so, I presume you mean you're not seeing the disks and the shares via your network. To see the individual disks, simply enable disk shares (as suggested above) ... go to Settings - Global Share Settings -- and set Enable Disk Shares to Yes To see your shares, set Enable User Shares to Yes on the same page.
December 7, 201510 yr ... on other thought: If you've just upgraded from v4.7 and haven't done it yet, you need to run the New Permissions script. Tools - New Permissions Just leave all the defaults as is ... you just need to run the script one time after the upgrade.

December 7, 201510 yr Community Expert > Do the disks show okay on the Web GUI in the Main tab? No. No disks are assigned to the array. The array is not online (I think because, no disks are assigned). If you have not started the array then you will not be able to see Disk Shares or User Shares. They only become visible after the array has been started. When you were following the upgrade guide did you copy across the super.dat file from your old setup to the config folder for v6? That is the file that has the disk assignments.
December 7, 201510 yr Author Maybe I misunderstood the upgrading process. Have I to reassign the disks? I do a clean install... I have not copied the super.dat because at the guide I cannot find any hint to do this. At the guide i find: "super.dat - delete if clean install or from earlier than v5.0-beta6" so I don't copy...

I have not copied the super.dat because at the guide I cannot find any hint to do this. At the guide i find: "super.dat - delete if clean install or from earlier than v5.0-beta6" so I don't copy... Hmm. If that file is not copied then you definitely need to reassign all the disks. Make sure that you do not accidentally assign a data disk as a parity disk as that would result in the loss of its contents. Assigning the disks previously used in unRAID should not lose their content when setting up a new array . However if when you start the array unRAID offers to format a disk then something is wrong and do NOT do this as it will wipe the disks content. I must admit I have no idea if the version from 4.7 should be compatible with v6. Since in v5 onwards disks are tracked by serial number and prior to that they were tracked by where they were plugged in it is quite possible that the file is not compatible,
December 7, 201510 yr If going from v4.7 to v6 i think you need to reassign all the drives. If you were going from v5 to v6 you would not. So in v4 you need to take a screen shot of your drive assignments or write them down (which serial # is which drive).. then reassign them in v6 and run new permissions.
December 7, 201510 yr Did you assign the disks? With the array stopped, you have to, one-at-a-time, assign a disk to each slot in the array. THEN you can Start the array. HOWEVER ... if you did not record the locations of your disk in v4.7 by serial number, you need to be VERY CAREFUL about doing the assignments, or you may destroy some of your data. You should assign ALL of your disks as DATA disks => do NOT assign a parity disk. Then Start the array and see which disk is shown as "unmountable" -- that will be your parity disk. Now Stop the array, go to Tools - New Config and reset the configuration. Now assign all of the disks EXCEPT the parity disk as data disks ... and then Start the array again. This time there shouldn't be any "unmountable" disks. You can now do what I noted above --enable user shares; enable disk shares; and run the new permissions script. Once you've confirmed all is well, Stop the array and assign your parity disk ... then Start it and let it do a new parity sync. When that's done, run a parity check to confirm all went well ... and you're now done and running v6
