Can't access web interface

Featured Replies

This has happened on/off since I have upgraded to V6. If I reboot it will work for a bit and than after a few days back to same issue.

Issue: I can't access the web gui or get past first level of shares right now.

Dockers installed:

Emby - was running

Plex - was running

Makemkv

Handbrake

Logitech Server - was running

In the syslog I see the following.

emhttp: main: can't bind listener socket: Address already in use

Here is the syslog

Items to test to see if they fix issue

1) Upgrade memory from 8gb(4*2gb) to 16gb(2*8gb) - completed 1/13/16 and turned on 3 dockers - Plex, Emby, Logitech. Will let it run for a week for sure.

***System hung up again 1/17/16

***Updated to 6.1.7 1/17/16

2) Dockers maybe locking up tower - https://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=45286.msg432335#msg432335

3) go file needs some cleanup, or alternatively start with a 'virgin' go file

4) Convert current drives from reiserfs to xfs or btrfs.

5) starting/running it selecting the "Run with No plugins" from the boot menu

6) Run SMART tests on your drives - ran on 1/17/16 on all drives with zero errors.

***********Other Notes ************

What you could try is booting up unRAID and having a monitor and keyboard attached to the system for the unRAID console, then login to the command line and type the following:

tail /var/log/syslog -f

This will keep the system log output going to your monitor.  If the system locks up again, take a picture of that monitor with the log on the screen so we can see the last messages

In the syslog I see the following.

emhttp: main: can't bind listener socket: Address already in use

Here is the syslog

The syslog says that because you tried to restart emttp manually, it does not work that way. Instead, we need to figure out why the original instance is not responding. Probably it is stuck waiting for something.

In any case, the syslog also says that you are running 6.1.3. Try the current version first.

For v6, instead of syslog you should go to Tools - Diagnostics and post the complete diagnostics zip. That includes syslog and lots of other useful information, such as the output of the ps command which would have told us if emhttp was still running.

Here is the PS file.

root      4347    1  0 Dec08 ?        00:33:01 /usr/local/sbin/emhttp

ps.txt

Probably should be mentioned that the command "diagnostics" can be executed from the console (if Telnet/SSH is working or a keyboard/screen is available). If the web interface is not reachable, it is problematic to use the web interface to gather diagnostics. :-)

Also in the ISOF file -

emhttp    4347  root    3u  IPv4  13365      0t0  TCP *:80 (LISTEN)

So should I do the upgrade like recommended or is there something else to try first?

Thanks

You should upgrade anyway.

Where is the info on upgrading from v6 to next v6.x?

In v5 you would do the following usually -

Copy the files bzimage and bzroot from the zip file to the root of your flash device, overwriting the same-named files already there.

Is it the same for V6?

Found the following - Anyhow, all you should have to do to upgrade is go to the plugins tab and hit Check For Updates

Didnt' realize it was right there.

Ok issue was back last night but I had to just reboot it so we could all watch a movie.

What else should I be looking at - no web access, drive share access but can ping it and putty to it.

Thanks

Also should mention that after typing diagnostics at the command line, the diagnostics are saved in the log folder of your flash drive.

Not letting me add a file.

Goes to start new topic after I hit save.

Ok looks like it hung up already. I had to reboot it after I made some changes to make sure they took place.

Trying to run diagnostics  but that doesn't seem to be running. Stuck at Starting diagnostics collection........

I had just finished using Makemkv. Before running that all seemed to be fine.

This happened again tonight. Seemed to happen after I ran a handbrake job. Once I started it I lost my connection to the server.

Can only putty into the server. I run diagnostics and it just sits at "Starting diagnostics collection....."

Yikes what to do.

chip, have you run memtest for 24 hours?  That would be useful to check your memory is good.

Also post your full machine specs here as well.

I started memtest last night so far so good. It is on Test #6 how long should it run for?

chip have you got 4GB of memory or 8GB?

In your post you've put 4GB (4 x 2GB) so I'm confused.

If it's 4GB I wouldn't be surprised if you're just running out of memory, even with 8GB with Emby, Plex & a VM I wouldn't be surprised if things are a little tight on the memory front...
