Automatic download of media content

Featured Replies

I am finally getting my media download procedure automated. I will be using torrents (Transmission) and maybe Usenet (I am in process of familiarizing with Usenet :) ).

I have couple questions:

- How do you have configured active transfers/downloads via torrent/usenet? I have 1 HDD outside of array (Unassigned device) for active transfers and when transfer is completed, I manually (using rsync via SSH) move data to array (movie, TV or music share). Is there a better way (probably is, but I didn't find it yet ;D )?

- TV and Episode renaming. On clients I am using Kodi and manually subtitle download, when I am watching content and I have got better find rate, when episode is not renamed in something generic like "{Series Title} - S{season:00}E{episode:00} - {Episode Title} {Quality Full}". What is your opinion on episode renaming and subtitle downloading?

I can only speak for Usenet as I haven't used torrents in years. For Usenet you need to sign up with a provider, there are many and their services vary but I use Giganews (Giganews.com) as they are one of if not the larges Usenet provider. Once you are signed up with a provider you need to familiarize yourself with a few programs for downloading from Usenet. For TV shows there are three programs you can look at, SickBeard, SickRage or Sonarr, I have only ever used SickBeard but I hear the other two are excellent as well. These programs are PVR programs, you enter the TV show you want to download, select the episodes you have/want, and it will search Usenet for the episodes on a predetermined schedule and download them when they are available. Another program you need to familiarize yourself with is SabNZB, this is the actual program that does the downloading and works in conjunction with SickBeard/SickRage/Sonarr, you register your UseNet account in SabNZB. The other thing you need to do is find a site that posts UseNet releases, many have gone private are by invitation only, but perhaps someone can point you to a public site that you can use, you need one or downloading from Usenet is pretty much impossible. There is a program called Couch potato which is similar to SickBeard/SickRage/Sonarr except it is for movies only, you can configure this to work with SabNZB, enter the movies you are looking for and it will search for them and download them when and if they are available.

My setup is designed to download content to my cache drive and then I manually copy it from there, I don't have an automated setup. Episode renaming can be handled by SabNZB, it has quite a few options for that, I don't use it personally.

SickBeard/SickRage/Sonarr/Couch potato and SabNZB are all available as dockers for UnRaid so you might want to look into that.

Good luck.
