which image/VM/OS to install to allow me to control media player w/android phone

Featured Replies

I only have 8GB of memory installed in my server.  I'm running a half-dozen dockers and have a Windows 8 (soon to be Windows 10) VM running off of my unassigned SSD, which I use as my HTPC in my living room.

I've tried to create a new VM, but the server crashes, due to what I assume to be a low memory error.

I'm trying to figure a way to allow me to install some kind of media server to send video and music to my bedroom TV for the occasional laziness I suffer from.

I'm thinking the openELEC image might be a good option, or maybe Plex, but I need to be able to controll it with my phone, as I have no desire (or easy ability) to have a keyboard or mouse connected to this second server.

I've also considered creating a Linux VM and installing JRiver Media Center onto that VM, but I think even a small Linux VM could take too much memory.

Suggestions?
