February 17, 201610 yr I'm having a very similar (if not identical) issue with my second server. I have 2 similar servers, both running 6.1.8. Interestingly, the issue has never happened on the server running VMs, and only on the dedicated NAS running 1 Docker (OpenVPN-AS) which leads me to believe it's not VM-related. 1. This issue occurs on the server running an Atom 2550 / ASRock C2550D4I motherboard -- No VM's, 1 docker 2. Issue does NOT occur on server with Supermicro X10SDV-TLN4F-O / Intel Xeon D-1540 -- 2 VMs (24x7), 12 Dockers I will need to try to tail logs on a dedicated monitor since the ipmi seems not to be able to catch the issue in time. Like OP, it seems to be entirely random, but usually after a few hours of operation. On a couple occasions, it has happened 2-3 times within an hour -- complete lockup requiring restart, not even CLI functionality.
February 17, 201610 yr Author Does your issue occur when restarting a docker? That would be very unusual. I had this issue before installing any dockers, and it only occurs when I reboot/shutdown an actual vm. Can you get any access at all? Ssh, gui, ping?
February 17, 201610 yr It has never happened when restarting a Docker When it does happen I have zero access to shares / GUI / Dockers/ or unraid CLI (via ipmi, ssh, or direct). Everything totally locks up. Doesn't seem to be hardware-related either. Passes all checks, smart status all good, and motherboard dedicated management is still preserved and reachable via dedicated NIC or Eth0 (NIC shared with unraid). If anyone has any ideas I'd really like to hear them. This specific NAS is being used for business backups so I can't have it locking up.
February 18, 201610 yr Author It is an unusual one but yours seems to happen for no reason, where as my original issue has specific triggers I can cause
May 22, 201610 yr This is still an issue in unRaid 6.2Beta 21. I am running 2 dockers, 2 virtual machines, 1 Ubuntu Server v16.04 and 1 Windows 10 virtual machine with GTX-970, and a USB 3 card passed through. When I shutdown the Windows 10 vm, everything locks up as soon as the virtual machine goes to a power down state. I can reboot/shutdown the Ubuntu Server any time I want with no issues. The Ubuntu server has no GPU, USB3 or sound devices being passed through and using VNC Remote as its display. I am wondering if I switch my Windows 10 vm machine type from pc-i440fx-2.5 to pc-q35-2.5 if it will make any difference?
