I'm looking for a SMB backup system to backup clients to the unRaid server.  I see many are using Crashplan, but does the CrashPlan on unRaid require that I have a crashplan account?  Or can I just use it locally without a cloud account?

You can just use it locally without a subscription.  I do just this.
