I have Windows on a drive with a bunch of other software installed. It would be great if I could just use that from within the VM system instead of setting up a new VM. Is this possible?

    Yes, but if I were you I'd make a full backup and restore it into the VM rather than use the physical disk. Plenty of opportunity to back yourself into a corner, better to keep the original intact. Either way you decide to go, I would force install the viostor drivers into your currently running system, that way you won't be fighting with virtual ide interface types and 7b blue screens.
