After moving to a new server I ran out of HD trays and I have to wait a few weeks before they arrive

 

As a result, I have 4x3TB drives I would like to preclear while I wait for the trays to arrive.

 

Since I dont have any open slots in my current server, if I boot up a spare server and preclear the 4 drives, when my trays arrive and I add my 4 drives, will they get formatted right away since they were precleared in my spare machine? Or does preclear only work if you preclear on the server you plan on using the disks in itself?

Yeah, you can preclear on any machine.

So the signature follows the disk, its not tied to the server
