Samsung 840/850 EVO are not safe choice

Featured Replies

I dealt with so many strange errors in the last few days, just to discover that Samsung EVOs are not fully supported.

My experience with an 850 as unRAID cache drive confirms it.

I don't read this as being a critical issue.

Anyways, according to T13 ATA ACS-3 this command set is optional and it might

be that the device is reporting it as it has it, but in reality it does

not have it. It's really nothing to worry about.

I might send in a patch to add a quirk to supress the error message.

Thanks

I have the error "Tower kernel: ata10.00: failed to get NCQ Send/Recv Log Emask 0x1" message twice in my log after each reboot (once each before and while the drive is being initialized). My Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD works flawlessly as cache drive (other than bad cable issue once)

I don't read this as being a critical issue.

I agree, been using a Samsung 840 for months without noticeable issues...
