Using the Ubuntu template I can't seem to complete an install.

 

I get to disk partitioning and I get the error:

 

"failed to partition selected disk" with no apparent way to mitigate it. I have tried swapping bios types, bumping the disk size to 1G etc but no joy.

 

Anyone else having this issue?

So I grabbed a CentOS ISO and it had the same issues. The installers can't seem to actually access the virtual disk for some reason.

 

Any pointers would be appreciated, I am sure I am missing something obvious. However I have explored all the options I can seem to find for the VM.

are you attempting to install desktop or server?  I was never able to successfully install desktop back in the xen days... however installing server and adding a liteweight desktop from the command line post install did work.

 

Ubuntu LTS 12.04 has the ability to display RDP so long as

1- basic ubuntu server is installed

2 - ubuntu desktop is installed

3 - sudo apt-get update

4 - sudo apt-get install xrdp

 

Ubuntu LTS 14.04 has these RDP and 2D desktop components REMOVED, but they may be added back.  I was unable to get VNC working on 14.04

1-  basic ubuntu server is installed

2 - ubuntu desktop is installed

3 - sudo apt-get install  xrdp

4 - sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop

5 - echo "xfce4-session" > ~/.xsession

6 - sudo /etc/init.d/xrdp restart

This take a little longer for the screen to come up - and it is not as pretty as the Ubuntu desktop, but it WORKS.

Sure! Below is the complete XML. I am attempting to install Ubuntu server LTS 14.04. I am not doing anything special or strange in the install (like changing default FS type or anything).

 

I have also attached a screenshot of the exact error.

 

I am finishing up a homelab server this week and really want to take a hard look at unraid 6 pro as the install (vs Proxmox). So any help you can give would be very welcome.

How big is your vdisk1.img?  Sounds like you're running out of space...

 

I thought Ubuntu needed a minimum of 5GB

So I zapped the VM and recreated it with a 10G virtual disk and it installed fine... I knew it would be something painfully obvious like that.
