December 23, 201510 yr Whenever I try to install a new Windows 8 virtual machine, instead of using the new iso for my installation the virtual machine reverts to a previous used iso. The result is that I cannot activate the new Windows 8 virtual machine. Any and all help regarding this dilemma will be greatly appreciated
December 23, 201510 yr You have to choose the install iso when you create the VM, so I don't see how that happens. Are you sure you copied the new iso to the folder where you have your isos? It would be nice with the XML of a VM that have this problem and the names of your isos, both new and old.
December 23, 201510 yr Author Thanks for the quick reply, I am sure that I copied the new iso to the proper iso library. I too am confused as to why this problem persists. I have tried to use various other isos to accomplish the install, but all Windows 8 installs revert to the first iso used to install Windows 8. I have used the revert and apply buttons, I have rebooted the system all to no avail. I am not sure what this comment refers to: It would be nice with the XML of a VM that have this problem and the names of your isos, both new and old. t It might be helpful to know where in the system that this information is stored if you have knowledge of this information. December 24, 201510 yr It's using the iso you specified.... Is it definitely booting from the iso and not the HD? If it's definitely booting from the virtual DVD iso then I can't see any other alternative than you've got them mixed up.. I've done it myself
December 24, 201510 yr Author Each time I tried to load the Windows 8 VM I deleted the old vm and disk. You were indicating that I might be using the same disk ?
December 24, 201510 yr Each time I tried to load the Windows 8 VM I deleted the old vm and disk. You were indicating that I might be using the same disk ? So you're deleting the VM config, deleting the virtual hard disk, recreating and the iso you want isn't being used? I can't offer any explanation for it using the wrong iso other than config... As far as I'm aware there isn't any caching of iso files in Unraid...
December 24, 201510 yr I don't see any other options that you have overwritten the new iso with the old and still kept the new name. Start from scratch and download new iso from Microsoft. What is the problem with the activation you have? You have a windows 8 key and have to install 8 first and then 8.1 after activating? To go around this and install 8.1 directly you just specify the generic windows 8.1 key below, and after installation change the key to your 8 key and you're good to go GCRJD-8NW9H-F2CDX-CCM8D-9D6T9 You find it here https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj612867.aspx To get windows 8.1 pro iso go here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8ISO
