size of docker and VM images is bigger than expected

I have my VM image set for 50 GB, and it shows as 50.7 GB on the unassigned drive.

I have my docker image set for 10 GB and it shows as 10.7 GB on the unassigned drive.

 

I'm not sure why both images show as .7 GB bigger than they are supposed to be.  I could understand some overhead, but 700MB is quite a bit of overhead.

 

Is this just a reporting error or are the 2 images actually using 1.4 GB more than they are supposed to?
