January 2, 201610 yr My modest unRaid server has worked fine for many years, but I've recently needed more space so after reading quite a bit on the forums I elected to upgrade my parity drive from a 2TB drive to a 4TB. Also, since I've run out of SATA ports on the motherboard I thought I would add an Adaptec 1430SA Sata card to give me 4 more SATA ports. The Adaptec card arrived and I updated it to the latest firmware without any problems. I connected the new 4TB drive (HGST NAS Drive) to the Adaptec Card in hopes of starting my server and doing a PreClear on the new drive for a while. However, the unRaid server will not boot properly as long as ANY drive is connected to the Adaptec SATA card. It is going through commands on the unRaid server's monitor, but it will never allow me to pull up the web interface (http://tower). I don't think any of the drives are mounting. All I have to do is disconnect from the Adaptec card and reboot the server to have it operational again (thank goodness). I'm not sure I can grab a log file because I can't get to the web interface when anything is connected to the Adaptec Sata card. I'm not if this matters, but I guess the Adaptec Sata card is 4x. I have it in the 16x slot on my motherboard, which I assume is OK. Again, I was able to update the firmware on the Adaptec card just fine and upon boot it does find the hard drive it is connected to just fine. It just after that when the unRaid OS starts loading that something seems to go awry. Any ideas where I might start to possibly resolve this issue?
January 3, 201610 yr Author Still no luck and very odd. I've disabled the BIOS on the Adaptec card. I've attempted to boot in SAFE mode via unRaid. unRaid still won't boot properly and I can't get to the web interface. Just unplugged the only hard drive connected to the SATA card allows unRaid to boot properly. Very confusing.
