October 16, 200916 yr I just wanted everyone to know that I have become another devout unRAID beleiver! I had been looking for storage solutions for sometime and ran across this a few weeks ago. After studying the forums for a while I finally decided to put a server together and give it a try. I had an old P4 2.8GHz machine laying around and a 250GB, 15GB and a 4GB hdd that I initially used to try it out. I tried various experiments and I have to say that I really like the behavior of unRAID as compared to other RAID solutions especially given the cost I sunk in it initially, $0! So after a couple of weeks of kicking the tires I bought three new 750GB WD Green drives and installed them today. So far all has been smooth as silk. I rarely post anything anyware simply because most of the time I can't stand to read the mess that people post, but I have to say that I have enjoyed reading the majority of the material here as it normally stays on topic not to mention that everyone seems to be very pleasant. I'm looking forward to hopefully being able to contribute in one manner or another.
October 16, 200916 yr Welcome vern, I just built my first unRaid last month and like it so far. The forum community has be extremely helpful as you pointed out. I knew nothing about Linux before I started my project, but have a software background. I'm trying to decommission my Windows machine by making unRaid do more than intended. Its Linux and should be be capable of anything with enough hacking. unRaid is great and I hope it continues to grow in popularity. I've definitely been bragging about finding unRaid as a storage solution. Thanks TOM and everyone that has contributed their time and scripting talent! side note: I almost went the drobo route...avoid it at all costs.
