Modest upgrade path?

Featured Replies

My current system has ALMOST enough power to handle everything I use unRaid for (no 6-player game streaming for me :P), but I find that enabling crashplan tends to result in a crash after a couple of weeks.

I'd like to move from the C2SEE/E5200 to something a bit more modern:

- 2-4 cores

- Supports >4GB of RAM

  - ECC or nonECC, I can get new RAM if needed

- Low power usage

- Runs cool

- Not Atom/Celeron slow

- At least 4 SATA slots on MB (although MOAR is better!)

Any current recommendations?

What is the budget though ?

What is the budget though ?

Pretty openended; I'll glady drop an extra $100 on the mobo or CPU if it makes it so I don't have to worry about anything for years, but if it's $100 more just for performance that wouldn't be used, I'd rather put it towards more HD's :P

I would aim then for a i3 or i5 series with a suitable motherboard and 8gb of ram.

That would set you back about $200 though and future proof your for years to come.
