New to unRaid, but it's working!

Been tinkering with this unRAID thing for a few days ever since I discovered it from a youtube video...  now I'm sold!  It's -almost- everything I've dreamed about for a loooong time!

What I used to run:

Win 10, dual logins,  (work and home)  on 4 monitors

virtualbox on work running ubuntu 15.10 for eclipse development

Problems are virtualbox has a number of glitches that's been annoying for over a year and has prevented me from using 3D acceleration ... which makes it slow and clunky.

(Many are not virtualbox's fault,  I discovered there's a lot of usb3.0 and cable-length issues too, and it doesn't like monitors that run off USB much either!)  ... So I cleaned a lot of that up, but it still glitches 'too much' for me.

New rebuild:  (Still in the making!  I'm on a test license right now!)

  unRAID 6

Win10, dual logins (can't avoid that without another license for another win10!)  ... and besides I can't have them both having direct access to the vidcards anyway!

ubuntu 15.10 in its own VM for eclipse development

I need my gaming rig!  8)  and unRAID lets me run to the hardware,  that got me stoked!  it's all working!  now talking to ubuntu via x11 via cygwin (or vnc when I need direct access to it)  and I can RDP to my main from anywhere,  it's like, all my problems solved!  I love it!

It's a little slow on updates when watching a movie while also on secondlife (or any gaming platform) but that's NOT unRAID's fault, my machine is no longer cutting edge these days.  I can live with that, upgrades will come, in time!

And my wife thinks I'm nuts, I took over the TV as a fifth monitor so I can boot from it using the onboard graphics,  cuz I can't use the nvidia cards for my win10 environment if it boots off them!

Two more video cards and 4 more monitors (or maybe just 2 more monitors on DVI, my vidcards support 3 monitors each)  ...  now I'm just rambling  :o

Suffice it to say I'll be buying a license soon as my new flashdrive arrives... I haven't yet found (with a little tweaking)  anything unRAID can't do, that I was already doing!

Oh, and hi!  new user here :D

Congrats, sounds like things are going well  :).

Hey, Welcome!

That's a truly magnificent post.....

If only all first posts were like this, we'd have really quiet forums.... lol

Now feel free to get stuck in and help others...  ;)
