Unable to use Keyboard in VMs

Featured Replies

I've got two keyboards

- Logitech Illuminated

- CM Storm Rapid-I

First of all, the CM keyboard isn't recognised by unraid, so I'm unable to chose it when creating a Windows VM. The Illuminated is listed. But even then I'm not able to use the keyboard inside the VM.

Any idea what it could be? I've seen other threads where some installs the Logitech SetPoints after they installed windows, and things works. That's not the case for me. Some have altered the controller type="usb" with model="nec-xhci" (or something like that) I've tried that too without any luck.

EDIT

I've also tried plugging the keyboards into both USB2, USB3.0 and USB3.1 ports. The Illumiated is recognised and available form the VM template list on all ports.

It's a Z170 board, using a i5 Skylake

EDIT

I tried connecting an old Apple Keyboard, and it worked. So, seems like there is some keyboard support issues when passing it through to the VMs.

Well, I didn't get any smarter. I "solved" it using an Apple keyboard.

Another thing is that the Logitech Illuminated is displayed under the VMs USB devices list, but not working when booting up. My Rapid-I isn't displayed under the VMs USB devices list, so I'm unable to chose that one. Although the Rapid-I is displayed under tools -> system devices -> USB Devices. But with no name.

Is it possibule to manually pass this device to a VM?

Solved that one by adding a hostdev with the vendor and product to the XML :) But something isn't right when this is required? :(

  • 1 year later...

can you explain a little bit more about the hostdev workaround? Is that for your Cm Storm Keyboard or to get the logitech working?
