Another Western Digital Failure

Looks like I lost another WD 500Gb drive. It was my parity drive in my PIII unRAID box. It started clacking & it froze up the machine. Computer will not post with this drive installed. I installed the drive on my work computer & it wouldn't post. Tried a different sata cable, same thing.

No way in h*ll I'm gonna do another advance RMA.. I'll just send it in & see which one comes back first.

I bought 4 of these from the Egg a couple of years ago. 2 have failed a month apart. Guess I should have staggered my purchases. lol

I'm a firm believer that it is needed for continued reliability.

Eeek, this scares me a bit as 8 of my 11 drives in my unRAID are WD (7 data, 1 cache).

The only thing to be concerned about is if you purchased them all within a very close time frame and from the same vendor.

If they are different batches over time you'll be OK.  Just keep a spare in hand. or be prepared to use your cache to replace a failed drive.
