Files written to disk excluded from shares

Featured Replies

I run v 6.1.6 and have an odd behavior that may just be a lack of understanding on my part. I have a 12 disk array with 1 cache disk 1 parity and 10 data disks. When I configured the shares I have 1 disk that is temporary storage and is identified as share Temp, all the other shares have this disk excluded but when I move files from this disk (Temp) and place in a share directory other than Temp it creates a folder on the Temp drive and names it the share folder name and leaves it on the drive under the share folder name that I am moving the file to. I thought that excluding the Temp drive from all the other shares I created it would not place these files on the Temp drive. What am I missing??

How are you moving the files?

I use mc and move the files to /mnt/user/video  which is the path to the share, I think. It seems to make sense to me as navigating from the root to mnt there are all 10 disks that are the array identified as well as cache, user and user0 (which I setup for ftp to my local windows pc) under user and user0 there are all the shares I created. I only have the temp drive spun up all the time while the others only spin up when I access or mover scheduler moves files from the cache to the appropriate share.

Is your Temp drive your Cache Drive?

No, my temp drive is drive 3 of 10 in the array and the cache is outside the 10 in the array.

As a workaround, move the files from /mnt/disk?/Temp/ to /mnt/disk#/video instead of /mnt/user/video.

Regarding mc and the command line, this comment by jonp is worth reading.

Thanks for that. The easiest solution is to move directly to a disk in the share for video but this will mean I will have to determine which drive is appropriate instead of unraid balancing between the drives available to the share.
