Migration Recommendations

Featured Replies

Ok so I have an older version 5 server that has an array or 2 x 3 TB and 1 x 2 TB.

I registered a new USB and bought a new copy of version 6. I also purchased a new 4 TB hd and I have a different motherboard, cpu, memory etc that I can build an entirely new unraid server.

What are my options for migrating and how would you do this? What is the best way to move the data and HD from my old server?

Ideally I would end up with the new server with all my old data and all 4 HD's.

Version 4 never supported 3TB drives. Did you "short-stroke" them or something?

If you already had a key it was not necessary to buy a new one since upgrades are free, and the downloads are free. It is just the keys to use the downloads with a specific USB flash drive that cost money, and even those can be transferred to new USB flash drives for free.

Really no point in starting now with V5. V6 is much better, and nobody wants to support V5 now. Download V6 and go from there. Read the stickies in V6 Support.

You could just put the old drives in the new system, boot up V6, assign the drives (don't put a data drive in the parity slot), and then after everything is working, just upgrade each drive one at a time to a larger drive using the usual unRAID drive rebuild.
