Bootable USB Hard Drive in KVM

Featured Replies

Honestly, I don't know why you would ever want to do this but I just wanted to see if it was possible.  I have a bootable USB HD that has Lubuntu 15.10 installed on it.  It boots directly into EmulationStation...it is my portable arcade machine that can be basically plugged into any system and booted.

Surprise surprise...

Yup!  Cool stuff!

I remember that booting USB devices in ESXi was always a challenge.  I just booted the OE installer via a USB stick (that way it is designed to work) and it worked perfectly.  I'm not sure why I never tried before other than the fact of mounting the EFI IMG is just as easy (if not easier).
