April 2, 200620 yr I'm not sure if this is already supported or not but I know I don't use my unraid server most of the day. Would it be possible to have a wake on lan setting? Or even a S3 suspend setting that WOL?
April 3, 200620 yr To be really specific, what I would like is wake on ping, which I had working great on my Windows servers before I switched over to Unraid. I really, really don't want to have to cruft up a magic packet to do WoL unless wake on ping is impossible under Linux. This would be the killer feature that would make this system near perfect for me. It's fantastic that the drives spin down when not in use, if I could get my power consumption down the S3, I would be a happy, happy man.
April 3, 200620 yr S3 Suspend & Wake On Lan are very high on the priority list & we'll be tackling this soon.
May 20, 200620 yr Author Just curious if we'll see this in the next update? Also do you have a release timeframe? Thanks Erik
September 16, 200619 yr Wake On Lan is in 3.0-beta1, but S3 suspend is not. You can get the MAC address of your ethernet port on the Settings page. Turns out S3 suspend in linux is "spotty". We haven't been able to get it to work reliably, but haven't spent all that much time on it either - there are bigger fish to fry at the moment.

Ah, bummer - this was the thing I was most looking forward to in 3.0. I've got four servers running, having reliable S3 suspend and wake-on-ping would save me tons on my monthly power bill.
September 17, 200619 yr I wish I could say that turning my computers off would make a big difference in my power bill At $700 for the month of July I don't think my computers make too much difference.
September 17, 200619 yr Whats the best way to setup the Wake ON Lan? Motherboard settings and PC usage? Any special apps i need to get this working? Does this cause any problems with the system powering off & then back on?

Does this cause any problems with the system powering off & then back on? Make sure the motherboard bios has WOL enabled for the network i/f. Sometimes this is called "wake from S5." S5 is the form of suspend state where the system is powered off, power supply (appears) off, CPU fan is off, no power to memory, BUT you will often see a green LED still lit on the m/b & often the LED's associated with RJ45 ethernet connector are lit as well. This is the normal suspend state for most PC's. From this state the network adaptor can respond to the WAL "magic packet" and signal the power supply to come on, just as if you pushed the front panel switch. On the D865GLCLK it's under ACPI settings. There are a number of freeware apps available for sending the WOL magic packet. Google is your friend. You will need to know the MAC address of the server's network adaptor which is available on the Settings page.
July 5, 200719 yr Waking up an old thread... Any further info on the current status of this for unRAID? (WOL resume from S3 being the ideal) It would probably be the number one thing I would like to see in the next release.
July 10, 200718 yr IIRC, WoL with a "magic packet" versus wake on just any packet to that machine is not an OS issue, but a card issue from what I understand. Intel card drivers have option for WoL to wake with a magic packet, directed packet, or both. Some cards implement this feature and some don't.
