cache drive - RFS / XFS

Featured Replies

I just upgraded from 5.0.5 to 6.1.7.. so I'm all RFS.

What benefit (if any) do I get by switching my Cache drive over to XFS?.

Also, having mixed drive formats in unraid cause any performance or permissions problems?

XFS is deemed to be more stable and perform better.    However whether the difference is enough to justify the move is moot.

Mixed drive formats is fine, and there should be no adverse effects just because you have mixed formats.  However many people have reported XFS as performing better than ReiserFS especially as the drive gets nearer full.  The downside of XFS is that the recovery tools are nowhere near as good as reiserfsck at getting data back from corrupt drives (if you ever get into that scenario).  XFS is now the default unRAID format for new array drives unless you change that in the settings.

okay, I'll set my cache drive to XFS to see how that works out

Note that changing the format will lose all existing contents, so if there is anything on it that you want to keep you need to back it up first.
