January 20, 201610 yr I've used v5 forever and only recently upgraded to v6.. besides the samba issue it introduced (http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=45725.0) it has been pretty smooth. Just wanted to say congrats and thanks for all the hard work poured into this great product. Glad to see ssh is enabled by default and just worked.. didn't like seeing FTP enabled by default.. but not sure if it was basically disabled since the user list was empty? or if it was open to guest/everyone because of it.. Does unraid really not backup the log file on shutdown to flash (guess I'll have to go find that shutdown script)? Still hate that I have to click on Tools > System Log to get to the full log.. I never liked the popup window with the snippet of a log.. could just do what unmenu did.. attach the snippet to the bottom of the dashboard.. then link in the nav to the full one.. also now that you guys have javascript being loaded.. leverage that jquery and use something like tablesorter for your tables.. let people filter/sort... Dynamix webGui while decently flexible on giving options (sometimes befuddling to make changes since you have to navigate back and forth from settings to pages to possibly see what changed since you really dont know what they do...) also, some things just look awful (windows + firefox does not like the font-family used...) it still a decent upgrade than the old stock ui. Not sure where the Dynamix code lives/if people can contribute.. perhaps put a link to the relevant forum/github page on the plugin page? For the chipsets/known isuses.. would be nice if these were put on the changelog pdf/txt like how video card driver releases do.. and/or put a note in the syslog if the known chipset/driver/whatever is found and show a warning.. instead of expecting the user to be proactive/retroactive to know to search for that.. as not everyone may know about the Marvel issue.. or the Intel speedstep issue.. etc etc etc... I bring this up because of the massive paranoia that myself/most people have when it comes to upgrading something that isn't broken. Noticed while troubleshooting the samba bug that v6 introduced that if I was logged in via ssh and navigated to /mnt/user/share_name that it would stop unraid from shutting down until I exited.. not sure if this can be avoided since I was login as root... does unraid have anything to protect/secure itself from ransomeware.. as they are getting scarier... example: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/ransom32-is-the-first-ransomware-written-in-javascript/ its scary for a user to just click on something under Tools... your not sure if its going to have ill effects or prompt you first.. 'New Config' or 'New Permissions' for example.. should show a different icon for stuff thats irreversible/auto start.. and use tooltips... Help does nothing here.

This is noit a bug - it is expected behaviour. You got the same behaviour in v5 if you used telnet and had a shell session open on the array. It is standard Linux behaviour to not be able to unmount a drive which is in use. does unraid have anything to protect/secure itself from ransomeware.. as they are getting scarier... example: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/ransom32-is-the-first-ransomware-written-in-javascript/ No protection against ransomware I am afraid. Not sure how anything like that could be done anyway. Seems the only feasible way is to make sure the clients all have protection against it. It is probably good practise to avoid mapped drives at the client level to make it harder for network resources to be found and accessed. its scary for a user to just click on something under Tools... your not sure if its going to have ill effects or prompt you first.. 'New Config' or 'New Permissions' for example.. should show a different icon for stuff thats irreversible/auto start.. and use tooltips... Help does nothing here. Not sure if these are good examples. The New config option takes you to a dialog that DOES give you a warning and makes you tick a checkbox to be allowed to continue. The New Permissions option gives you a detailed description of what it is going to do and asks you whether to proceed. It only makes sure that permissions are set as they should be in the first place!
January 20, 201610 yr Author about the tools section, you dont know if just clicking on them will have any ill effects towards you until you try.. and thats not something most people will/should be comfortable doing. especially if the help button does nothing there.. there is no tooltips... have to google search for somewhat vague things in hopes to find the relevant thing... just saying it could be done/presented better. yes i understand you cant unmount a drive if its in use. perfectly understand that concept.. i just fail to see how someone that navigated to a folder hours ago can stop your array from shutting down.. perhaps it should send out a broadcast message that its going to shut down. scenario, you telnet in and you needed to fix a permission/whatever.. you left it there and then went off to work.. later on that night you have a power outage.. unraid goes to shut down thanks to ups.. what happens? that stale session kills unraid on being able to shut down? -- my concern
