So I'm having trouble trying to format a disk in UD. I DO have the UD+ plugin and destructive mode enabled. The drive is a NTFS drive from a windows server box that I replaced with Unraid. I have delted the partition and it seems to have worked as the drive shows 2tb free if i mount it. However, no matter what I do I cannot seem to get the option to format. When I delete the partition with the red x it just comes back wit the same name/serial as the drive itself. The disc log even says that it deleted it. But when I do UD refreshes and its still there with 0b so I never get the option to format the disk.

Any insight? This is the first time I've tried to do anything other than mount with UD since you split them into two plugins. I'm on Unraid 6.8.2

Post a screen shot and the diagnostics.

When you hover your mouse over the 'X', what does it say?  Remove the preclear plugin and see if the partition can be removed.

When I hover over the 'x' it says "Remove Partition".

But you nailed it! When I removed the preclear plugin it worked as expected and let me format the disk. Now the question is is the incompatibility on UD or preclear?

So I guess just only install preclear when you need to preclear a disk and you will probably eliminate the problem?

Don't know.  Preclear adds some logic to UD to remove the preclear script when the X is clicked.  Not sure which has the issue.  If you are not actively preclearing disks, it's best to remove the plugin to prevent any interference.

Very strange behavior. Let's be clear, when you @neruve clicked the X button after the partition mount point, nothing happened?

It popped the box up asking to type yes. Then it actually did delete the partition, but then after UD refreshed the partition name was still there at 0b and the option to format never appeared. When I uninstalled preclear disks everything worked as normal.

Took a look at both Preclear and UD and this make no sense. Maybe some of the cached information didn't got updated correctly. I found no scenario where Preclear can prevent UD from correctly remove a partition.

I think the issue is not that the partition could not be deleted, it appears it was deleted.  The issue as I understand it is that after deleting the partition, the format button would not show until preclear was deleted.  Background update?

UDEV rules are reloaded when Preclear is uninstalled, maybe that makes rc.unassigned reload all UDEV info Unassigned Devices caches, fixing the problem.

Is there something UD can do to correct this?  Update UDEV rules?  Haven't done anything with UDEV lately so I don't remember much about it.

Just sent you a PR on Github.

@gfjardim Yes, it did indeed delete the partition, however, the partition name was always still there after the delete with a size of 0b and the format button did not appear. After preclear was removed both of those issues were fixed. When you deleted the partition nothing was shown at all when you click the little plus to the left to view the partitions and the format button was available.

Also thank you and @dlandon for the quick response and attention in getting everything resolved. It's what makes this community so great!

I'm thinking you've got memory issues.  Try rebooting.  If it comes back test your memory?

I think you and @perhansen might be right.  I've been getting high memory usage lately and I've purchased another 32GB that's waiting to go in once a big processing job finishes in a day or two.  Will report back if all ok afterwards.

Thanks

Hi

This week I had to format my usb backup drive.

After that, I mounted the disk and lauch my rsync script. At the end of the backup I wanted to unmounted disk but it's not work. Logs says "Unmount of '/dev/sde2' failed. Error message: umount: /mnt/disks/Seagate_Backup_Plus_Drive: no mount point specified. " while my new drive name is Unraid_Backup.
Can someone help me ?

Thanks for your help

I'm not sure, but I think you removed the drive when it was mounted with the old name, then added it back, renamed it and then tried to unmount?  Or something along those lines.

Best thing to do is reboot.

rebooted and all is well again - must have been low memory

I've been struggling with UD for weeks; it all started about when we had to remove shares and re-add them due to an update.  About that time I added my two unRAID systems to my domain.  This morning, I noticed that yet again, all of my UD shares were unmounted on both systems and they refused to remount.  I've had this happen before and removing the share and adding it again fixed it.  Today, it refused to add them using their "name" even though "search for servers" brought them up successfully, I added credentials and load shares brought up the share names.  it all *appeared* to work until I tried to mount the shares.  I eventually was able to add them via IP address instead of server name.  Here are some examples:

Hello.

I just added a 500GB SATA SSD to UD, and cannot format it.  I turned Destructive mode on, and the only button available is Mount.  It does successfully mount, but I can't seem to format it as the Format button never shows up.

UD.thumb.PNG.fa0fa65f4bb57dd32b6d474ac291ffa0.PNG

I initially tried Preclearing it (I knew I should try that with SSDs, but I couldn't think of anything else to try).  I then thought it was because it has a bunch of Proxmox partitions on it, so I tried deleting those.  That didn't work, and after I did that it wouldn't even mount.

So then I pulled it from the server and hooked it up to another machine and formatted it NTFS, and that's where I'm at now.  I'd like to format it as XFS, but can't figure out how to do that.

It's an older generation drive, that supports TRIM, but not "Deterministic read" if that helps.

Any help would be appreciated.
