This has been bugging me for a while so I'll let the paranoid in me speak out

If you use this, make sure to *only* visit http://ipmagnet.services.cbcdn.com/ through your VPN.

There is only going to be one person checking that webpage with your specific hash and that's you.  If someone sniffs that traffic, they will get all your IPs

good advise Gog

p.s. i am considering creation of an ultra secure ui based container with vpn and browser for times when you want to ensure all ports and protocols are secured whilst browsing, maybe with built in porn, i mean incognito mode, so that it stores all config in ram, so no tracking, then the only bit not secure is the user themselves and whether they login to social media :-)

Great idea!

I generally use the VPN only for downloads.  No point of trying to be anonymous if all the house traffic goes through the VPN and someone does something in the clear.  Less of an issue with the rise of HTTPS but still.

yeah exactly, one of the reasons i built these vpn containers in the first place is that i didn't feel comfortable with all my traffic going over vpn, that just doesn't feel right to me, and its going to increase your exposure for sure if you start using fb, twitter etc on the same vpn connection

hi binhex! i appreciate the work you have done to this community.

is there a possibility of a Transmissionvpn Docker, by you? i've tried activ's Docker but could not get it to work with Air-vpn.

Transmission is much, much more lightweight than Deluge, and thus is able to handle multiple torrents seamlessly, I'd be incredibly grateful if you could create it!

/media is a separate volume mapping used to point at your existing media (normally on your array) i would advise keeping /media seperate to where you download files to.

I'll change that.

Though my question is that Sonarr and Radarr have /downloads as the default container path like:

/downloads             /mnt/cache/appdata/media/

So can I change /downloads container path to /data without any issues? Just so that all the docker and their paths are consistent.

you shouldn't see too many issues no, but it will mean you will need to reconfigure each app you change so that they now point at /data/whatever instead of /downloads/whatever, it could impact things like seeding though, so if you are seeding a lot f of torrents then that could be a pain as you would need to recheck each torrent download with the new location, but in the end its worth doing, otherwise you WILL run into issues with other apps calling deluge.

not at the moment im afraid, too much going on, have you tried rtorrentvpn? there are several users who report running several thousand torrents with this with no issue, def worth a look.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to stop OS X from messing with the file.  works for about a day or so and must get picked up with /appdata is mounted on my Mac mini.  Everything I lookup on Xprotect is minimal on how to exclude it from messing with the .opvn file.  Found something that referenced Curl, but no real instructions.

I have tunnelblick installed on the same machine, using the same .opvn file and it's fine.  At a loss here, since this keeps breaking it and googling anything comes up cryptic.

Yeah I currently have that Docker running on my server, yet it seems to become unresponsive at around 850~ torrents, no idea why. I have 2x L5640s and 24GB of RAM, so it should be able to handle it easily :(

you're issue is most probably I/O and not to do with CPU or RAM resources, im assuming you have a cache drive?, i would guess maybe as a cache pool, if so there are some performance issues with this, and even running as a single cache drive, if its formatted with BTRFS then there are still performance issues, if you really want to run that many torrents i would firstly recommend formatting your cache drive as XFS and then if you have the money then buy yourself a second SSD and use the unassigned drives plugin to add this in, then use your cache drive to store vm's, docker image file, metadata, and use your unassigned drive to store incomplete/completed downloaded, this is by far the best setup and you will most probably (not tested, but seen evidence of this) see significant improvements in responsiveness of all of your Docker containers and VM's.

p.s. if you want to try transmissionvpn then not tried this but there is another transmissionvpn somebody else has authored, and user 'clowrym' has created a unraid friendly docker template for it, see here:-

I have a single cache drive that is indeed formatted in btrfs, and that acts as storage for appdata, docker image file etc.

My incomplete/complete folder is in my array though, but that shouldn't cause such a problem should it? It definately begins to choke up when I have active torrents downloading, but I don't have a speedy connection so the usage is around 4MB/s~.

And thanks for that repo, I'll give it a shot. Cheers binhex ^_^

it could very well be the source of the issue, yes, writes to a protected unraid array are slow, and even more so when multiple tiny writes are happening (as is the case with torrents), i would not recommend writing directly to the array, instead write to the cache and either do post processing using sonarr/radarr/whatever or get the in built 'mover' to move the files to your array.

Hi,

First of all, a big thanks to you binhex for your work and for disseminating it freely.

I am using perfect privacy VPN and have tried setting up delugeVPN with it. Unfortunately i can't seem to get it working.

I put one .ovpn from my VPN provider in the openvpn folder of Deluge.

I removed the following lines from the .ovpn file:

tun-ipv6

down /etc/openvpn/update-resolv-conf
up /etc/openvpn/update-resolv-conf

I also set the NAME_SERVERS to the dns server from perfect privacy for the location I chose (Zurich). However, the page of the webgui is still blank

Any idea as to what my issue is?

Hi,

I allow myself to quote a post i made about a week ago which got lost in the conversation and to which i never got a reply. In the meantime I'm running the apps i need in a win10 VM with perfect privacy's VPN software. However i'd really like to use dockers to save resources.

Would appreciate any tip!

you win the award for the most complex openvpn configuration i have ever seen :-), damn thats a LOT of options, im assuming they are being pushed from your vpn provider, but i think ive spotted the issue, so here is a part of your ovpn file:-

remote zurich.perfect-privacy.com 149
remote zurich.perfect-privacy.com 1151
remote zurich.perfect-privacy.com 1150
remote zurich.perfect-privacy.com 1149
remote zurich.perfect-privacy.com 1148
remote zurich.perfect-privacy.com 148
remote zurich.perfect-privacy.com 151
remote zurich.perfect-privacy.com 150

problem is im securing things via iptables for a single remote endpoint on a single port, the above isn't that, its a single remote endpoint on multiple ports, thus the script i have written picks the first on in the list, as can be seen here:-

2017-10-26 21:09:33.788297 [info] VPN_PORT defined as '149'

so the fix is remove all of those remote lines except for one, the choice is yours as to which one you leave, then save and restart the container, if its still not starting then post a new supervisord.log again.

Hello again.  I have now purchase PIA access.  I'm ran through the video that was posted earlier and followed the steps for binhex-delugevpn, however when I restart binhex-delugevpn docker and click on webui I still get page can not be displayed.  I have uploaded supervisor.log file for your reference.  What am I missing?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

i think your problem is this:-

warn] Password contains characters which could cause authentication issues, please consider changing this if possible

try changing your password to ONLY include upper case letters and/or lower case letters and/or numerics.

I changed my password as recommended and still no go, attached is new supervisord.log.  Also I'm in the USA and connecting to the Netherlands PIA as recommended in the video if that matters.

i cant really see much wrong with that other than openvpn never connects, i can only assume either your host is blocking the connection to the endpoint, or more likely your ISP is blocking, have you tried specifying a different endpoint to see if you can connect ot somewhere else?

Here are the supervisord logs from trying to connect to 2 US based end points.  I think I'm screwed on using a VPN like this.

supervisord - US West ovpn.log

supervisord - US California ovpn.log

ok it looks like the same result openvpn is failing to start, just to double check, what is your IP address and netmask of your unraid host, just want to verify its not LAN_NETWORK thats misconfigured.
