[Support] binhex - DelugeVPN

Recommended Posts

I am getting a frequent UI error "The connection to the webserver has been lost!". It's been getting worse over time, currently at 628 torrents which I don't think is too much. My system should easily be able to handle this (dual E5-2690, 24GB ram, SSD cache). CPU is typically at 1% with active torrents.

I do have some errors in the log but not sure if they are related:

Hello,

All of the sudden I can no longer access my Deluge WebUI on the same LAN.

I have tried restarting and still nothing.

Logs keep repeating this message:

2018-09-17 11:37:25,943 DEBG 'start-script' stdout output:
[warn] Response code 000 from curl != 2xx
[warn] Exit code 7 from curl != 0
[info] 3 retries left
[info] Retrying in 10 secs...

Any ideas on what I should try?

First of all, just want to say thanks for this docker. So I hope I can get help with this on Docker for Windows 2016? I've been working on this Docker for about a week. I'm using PIA. Currently using CA Vancouver but have tried every node on this list: https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/helpdesk/kb/articles/how-do-i-enable-port-forwarding-on-my-vpn. DelugeVPN is running alongside 4 other Dockers which have been up for a month and working fine. I have tried killing the other dockers and just running DelugeVPN by itself.

So I've got DelugeVPN Docker up and it works. I can connect to it and add torrents. I can connect to Privoxy (I enabled it to test) and was able to use the PIA tunnel to proxy Firefox (verified by IP check). I've even completed a couple of small torrents. The problem is my speeds are awful, like there is no open port for incoming packets awful. However, I pass the yougetsignal test. The port is definitely open and is set correctly in deluge. Yet I'm still seeing 15-20KiBps speeds and I have a 100mbps fiber line. Sabnzdb in a docker (no VPN) pulls from my Usenet servers at 10-12 MBps. I've tested torrents from private trackers to public ones (wasn't sure if it was OK to be specific, hope this is ok).

I'm using this to run the Docker: docker run -d --cap-add=NET_ADMIN -p 8112:8112 -p 58846:58846 -p 58946:58946 --name=deluge -v D:/Downloads/Bittorrent:/data -v D:/deluge:/config -e VPN_ENABLED=yes -e VPN_USER=XXXXX -e VPN_PASS=XXXXXX -e VPN_PROV=pia -e STRICT_PORT_FORWARD=yes -e ENABLE_PRIVOXY=no -e LAN_NETWORK=XXX.XXX.100.0/24 -e NAME_SERVERS=1.1.1.1 -e DEBUG=false binhex/arch-delugevpn

I have attached supervisord.log with DEBUG=true here. Also I've extracted the errors I did not understand to the Errors.txt file also attached. This log has a torrent its been downloading for a few days from a public tracker currently running at 17.2 KiBps. I must be missing something small or obvious for this all to be working but for poor speeds, so I could really use some fresh eyes as I'm stuck.

Thank you!

so on the face of it i think it looks well configured and i see nothing obviously wrong, my only question is your volume mappings (host side only not container side, as that is correct) you have, so im not familiar with running docker on windows, so this might be how its done, but shouldn't the volume mappings be linux paths to the vm's virtual disk?, or does docker on windows allow you to see windows paths directly?.

assuming the path is incorrect, i would expect it to be something more like (change the paths to whatever you like):-

-v ~/docker/deluge/downloads:/data -v ~/docker/deluge/config:/config

I have setup arch-delugevpn in Open Media Vault. Everything happens without any errors; but I cannot seem to resolve any hostnames. Turning off the VPN allows the following commands to produce the expected results; however no combination of VPN and/or Proxy will connect the web-ui.

Example behavior:

~$ sudo docker exec -it arch-delugevpn curl ipinfo.io
curl: (6) Could not resolve host: ipinfo.io
~$ sudo docker exec -it arch-delugevpn ping google.com
ping: google.com: Temporary failure in name resolution
~$ sudo docker exec -it arch-delugevpn cat /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 37.235.1.174
nameserver 8.8.4.4
nameserver 37.235.1.177
~$ sudo docker exec -it arch-delugevpn ping 37.235.1.174
PING 37.235.1.174 (37.235.1.174) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 37.235.1.174: icmp_seq=1 ttl=48 time=130 ms
64 bytes from 37.235.1.174: icmp_seq=2 ttl=48 time=127 ms

I have setup arch-delugevpn in Open Media Vault. Everything happens without any errors; but I cannot seem to resolve any hostnames. Turning off the VPN allows the following commands to produce the expected results; however no combination of VPN and/or Proxy will connect the web-ui.

looking at the log you posted i can see it does name resolution prior to the tunnel being established, as shown below:-

2018-09-18 12:00:56,018 DEBG 'start-script' stdout output:
[debug] Show name resolution for VPN endpoint us-mn2-smart.serverlocation.co

so once the tunnel is established it then fails to perform any name resolution, so i can only assume from this that your vpn provider is blocking dns queries (port 53) to all name servers apart from their own, this is probably to help prevent ip leakage. so you are going to have to find out what name servers your vpn provider uses and then tweak the NAME_SERVERS env var accordingly.

I have set NAME_SERVERS = 54.164.176.2,169.55.51.86,54.187.61.200 as provided by my my VPN (Getflix). The results of cat /etc/resolv.conf are

$ sudo docker exec -it arch-delugevpn cat /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 54.164.176.2
nameserver 169.55.51.86
nameserver 54.187.61.200

$ sudo docker exec -it arch-delugevpn dig any-old-address.com - times out after the tunnel is established.

To no avail as I was unable to resolve any hostnames. Not sure if it is relevant; but Getfilx requires an IP to be registered. I do not think that matters because my external IP doesn't change when running the container without VPN. My normal external IP is registered correctly. Is there a way to use nmap in the container?

I can't download the package because it cannot resolve the hostname while the vpn is up and it is not persistent across configuration changes.

Hi everyone,

I'm having a very frustrating problem with concerns to downloads atm, I think it may be related to a unclean shutdown that occurred.  Both the deluge and sab vpn dockers refused to start up, I eventually totally removed both and recreated from scratch.

Both started up after this, the SAB docker is working without a hitch but when downloading anything through Deluge I get an error on downloads on various stages of completion.  I've also searched the topic for "error" and "download error" but mostly finding error in connecting to the deluge interface.

I would really appreciate if someone can assist me as I've reached my troubleshooting limit on this. I also had a look on supervisord log but it could just as well be hieroglyphics...

Do you mean you didn't reinstall them using the Previous Apps feature? Previous Apps would insure you installed them with the exact same settings.

An overfull and corrupted docker image might be a more likely cause of the original problem than an unclean shutdown.

Tools - Diagnostics, post complete zip.

Yes, I deleted the docker settings from appdata, so it wasn't an orphaned image upon re-installing from apps.  Is there any info I should be worried about in the Diagnostics dump? Any sensitive info it may contain?

The docker settings aren't in appdata. The template with all the settings you used originally to setup a docker is kept on flash. That is what Previous Apps would have used to setup your docker again. Appdata is just the data the application itself uses.

And using Previous Apps would not create any orphaned image so I don't know what you meant by that.

Your diagnostics are anonymized.

I am such an idiot. I downloaded a config file from my provider and blam! it works just fine. It was "did you try turning it off then back on?" simple. Thanks for the help.

I figured it out, my cache disk is full...

Overfilling a disk can cause corruption. There are settings in Unraid that are designed to prevent filling up a disk.

In the case of the cache disk, the relevant setting is in Global Share Settings. Minimum Free should be set to larger than the largest file you expect to write to cache.

Unraid has no way to know how large a file will become when it begins to write it. If a disk has less than Minimum Free it will choose another disk for the write. In the case of cache, this is known as "overflowing to the array" and only applies to User Shares that are set to cache-yes. *See link below for more about the Use Cache settings.

Each User Share also has a Minimum Free setting that works in a similar manner. If an array disk has less than Minimum Free, Unraid will choose another disk for the write.

Here is a more detailed explanation of the Use Cache settings:
