I'm really sorry i keep spamming you with this issue. i guess i got confused between 2 different methods (i believe). so binhex has his script he wrote and i believe it is  /home/nobody/dbrepair.sh. i saw a screen shot of a guy having an issue and the screen shot was the menus i was looking at. The one that you suggested is form this github? https://github.com/ChuckPa/DBRepair. Its been a long week and im just getting confused from all the previous post. i ran dbrepair.sh but it was sitting at checking pms database for 3 hours and didn't seem like it was running. Im about at the point to nuke the docker and start from scratch. sorry to bug you

Just let it run, it takes forever, especially with one your size. Binhex changed the script to be a hybrid of the one you linked and his own, so it just runs now off the command you ran.

It will be better to salvage the Database then have to let plex rebuild. I have over 2k movies and a ton of tv shows and anime on mine and it took like a week to rebuild when my database got super corrupted about 6 months ago. And lost all the user watch history.

Good luck! It should fix it your issue though.

If you have a large database, be prepared for it to take forever though!

Just started it

Ran the script. Hit 1. Said stopping pms then stopped PMS

Make sure to do option 2 after you stop the PMS Service.

anyone having problems reclaiming server after the "log out all clients" in the wake of the security issues plex had now and sent an email to get us to change password. Well i did that stupidly just before bedtime. But now i cant see my server even if i have gotten a new claim key and restartet server with that parameter

i just cant see my server for like 2 sec before its gone from the list.

Let it go for half a day and no change. Had to shut down my pc it was runnung (not the server) Got super busy with kids stuff still haven't got a chance to look at it again. Its fine as long as I just add a couple of files at time. So living with it till I get some more time and things slow down. Sorry for the late response.

Same exact issue. Tried everything I could find online.... just can't get it back.

i had to remove Preferences.xml in the config directory, then made a new claim code and added a variable to the docker template added the key PLEX_CLAIM and added the claim key. Then i got into my server again. Had to repin librarys.

Maybe you dont need to remove the xml file, but that worked for me after i just tried to remove the token from the xml failed.

yeah but make sure you have everything ready to reclaim your server. I had to spend 2,5 hours to get my server online again because the "documentation" didnt work for me the first 5-7 times.

I obviously don't reclaim my Plex server very often (this might even be the first time!), but i went through it this morning and it was relatively painless, FWIW here are my notes (some of this is from memory so please let me know if im missing any info):

  1. Go to URL https://plex.tv/reset

  2. Put in your Plex registered email address

  3. Ensure to tick the option to Log out of all devices

  4. Wait for the reset link to be sent to your registered email address

  5. Click on link in email and enter in a new strong password and confirm

  6. You should now be logged into Plex Web (remote not local)

  7. Now restart the Plex container and then go to URL http://<your servers ip address>:32400/web you should see no login prompts other than a PIN (if set), if you are seeing email and password authenticaiton then you are not connecting to your local server, re-check.

  8. Once logged in click on the spanner icon top right and go to Settings then General and you should see a warning about needing to reclaim the server

  9. Click the button to reclaim the server and follow the prompts and then login using your registered email address for Plex

That was it for me, i could then login to https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/ and see my server as per normal (no re-pinning required), no other changes required.

I had no problem following Plex inc’s security advice – change password and reclaim Plex Media Servers.

Two instances of Plex Media Server (docker containers) on Unraid. Reset password, sign-in again, remove authorized devices, reclaim Plex Media Servers, sign-in Plex clients, obtain a new token for Tautulli (docker containers on Unraid). I followed similar process a couple of years ago for an earlier security advice and I practiced this several times (at least once a year) as a routine activity to change passwords.

I was having the same issues. Im Running binhex plex pass. I also had to add a variable plex code and edit my preferences.xml. and it would still not work. Finally changed my network from custom 1 network to host (even though the main pc i was using is allowed to talk to everything on my network) once I did that it allowed me to reclaim it.

I had no luck reclaiming my server and had to resort to removing the values mentioned here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/ from my Preferences.xml and getting a new authentication-token via modifications i did to this script: https://github.com/uglymagoo/plex-claim-server to make it work with the binhex-plexpass docker container on unraid
My version of the script is located here: https://gist.github.com/Celebrian/77953bf0c5521fb546e4d4685d4814f4
My knowledge of bash scripting is limited, so use at your own risk.

Appreciate this reply. I decided to make a second attempt with these instructions. I didn't get the PIN login, and it asked for my email/pass, but somehow still worked. I have no clue.... thanks!

This didn't work for me as Plex wouldn't come up due to
> MyPlex: Error 401 requesting JSON from: https://plex.tv/api/v2/server/users/features
after I changed the password.

I had to console in the container, stop Plex (I didn't know the incantation so I just killed the process) and ran the script from https://github.com/ChuckPa/UserCredentialReset/tree/main.

This forced a reclaim of the server and fixed up the permission problem.

I follow these up to step 8, then I do not see my server in the left side menu after clicking the spanner icon. Only sections with my user ID, and Plex Web.

I just fixed mine up. If you do not see the Option to Claim the Server, you may have to change the value for allowedNetworks
in your Preferences.xml

Mine was set to my PCs static address, so i wasn't allowed to claim on my laptop.

You can find descriptions of what it does here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201105343-advanced-hidden-server-settings/

Hi there,

I need help please.

I removed my Plex server and have tried to claimed it back, but my Plex seems to be in a crash loop. The logs seem to indicate that it's performing some database maintenance/rebuild and I've left this to run overnight. It's generated over 20K crash logs and the timestamp on the db's are getting updated but I'm unsure if I should just let this continue to run or perform some other task. I've tried restoring the plex container from a back-up, reclaimed the server and the same activity is happening.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciaited.

Kind regards
CK

I'm possibly very stupid or have messed something up but when I click on "Your Media" after reinstalling this due to resetting my password, I get a link to "Get Plex Media Server"

I've added my claim key and my media under /mnt/disk1/data/media/plex_movies and /mnt/disk1/data/media/plex_tv like I had it before, but it seems the actual media player is missing? I feel like an idiot but I've had this set up before with no problem until the password fiasco and feel a bit dumb here.

Edit: I think I was just impatient. I came back to this after a doctors appointment today and it asked me to add my media. I guess the setup hadn't completed yet? Not sure, but this is resolved, sorry.

Issue seems to have resolved

Check your settings and look for claim server. And try in an incognito tab.

If that's for me, I did try incognito and another browser (Firefox then Chrome). There aren't any server options at all.

Edit: I think I was just impatient, I came back after a few hours and the server asked me to add media. I guess I was just impatient, sorry about that.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have an issue where my plex server loses its claim after each restart. This started shortly after I did the reset password and log out of all devices - I had no issue with that process (other than needing to remember to use /web for my url). My docker container is a couple years old and I noticed the logs complaining about a CLAIM_SERVER variable not being set. I compared it to the current available version and added CLAIM_SERVER and it did not make a difference. I also notice the log complaining about:

2025-09-27 19:37:27,545 DEBG 'start-script' stderr output:

Error in command line:the argument for option '--userId' should follow immediately after the equal sign

I tried deleted my preferences.xml file but no change. I did try the official Plex version and I didn't seem to have an issue with that container but I don't want to switch (nor do I know how to safely switch).

Currently, I can either claim the server locally from /web or I can enter a new claim code but both options only work until the container restarts. I do get this in my logs but it doesn't appear with a new claim code entered:

2025-09-27 19:37:37,269 DEBG 'claim-script' stdout output:

[info] Claim response received:

<html><head><title>Internal Server Error</title></head><body><h1>500 Internal Server Error</h1></body></html>

You should set CLAIM_SERVER to 'yes' and put in a valid claim token for the value of PLEX_CLAIM only when you want to claim your server, once you have claimed your server then set CLAIM_SERVER to 'no', this will then stop the server from attempting to claim on startup.
