Migrate BTRFS Raid 5 to unRaid

Featured Replies

Hi,

I want to use unRaid 6 on my system. I do have 4 disks running in a Raid 5 on BTRFS. How could I migrate to unRaid the most easiest way ?

Any ideas?

Thanks

A situation like this usually involves some new hardware :(.

Even if you could directly add the BTRFS volumes to unRAID the fact that they are in a RAID 5 array is a problem.  A) You can't just break apart the array or you loose the data (gotta love RAID 5), and B) even if you could the data is striped across the disks so adding them in their current format wouldn't help.

So, the options I can think of are either using the same hardware and restoring from backup (assuming you have a really good backup plan) or acquiring some new hardware to help make the transition.

Unraid BTRFS cache pool can be raid5 but have no clue if it would import one created outside it.
